Glossary What is meant by the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change?

United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)

UN Framework Convention on Climate Change from Rio de Janeiro 1992 with the aim of “stabilising greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that prevents dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system”. Supported by almost 197 countries – the central component is cooperation between developed countries and less developed countries through personnel, technical and financial support in climate protection projects.

It sees itself as a voice of the environment and acts as an intermediary, lawyer and teacher when it comes to environmental issues. Among other things, the UNFCCC offers a framework for calculating the CO₂ avoidance of climate protection projects/CO₂ compensation, which is also the basis of klimaVest.
